Jay and I were married August 17th, 2007 in the Salt Lake Temple. The day was perfect. I married the love of my life, and was sealed to him to eternity. The morning of, I woke up and was so excited! What a great day to look forward to! I started on my hair, which for my Bridal pictures I had added extensions to, so that I could have it up in a updo. (I've always had pretty short hair) As I was trying to pin in the extensions, I noticed that there was a color difference...I had dyed my hair since the bridals and my hair was too dark for the hair pieces to look natural. I wanted to cry. But I didn't have time! I tried for a while to make the extensions work, trying to use my own hair with the extensions so it looked like like it could be my hair. That didn't work. So I tried doing just my hair up, and that didn't work. By the time I had done all the trail and error runs, I was almost out of time!
We needed to be leaving very soon. I had tons of junk in my hair from trying to make something work, and my hair looked awful. So I jumped in the shower to wash and and start new....I know my parents were dying and wondered if we'd make it in time. But fortunately for all of us, I was able to quickly finish my hair and we left maybe only 5 minutes later than we had planned on. Pretty good, Right?! (This of course is how I remember it, if you asked my mom, you may get a different story.)
My dad dropped me and my mom off at the corner by the temple so we could hurry in, Jay and Jay's dad (Also Jay) met us inside. We had a beautiful sealing ceremony, that I hope to always remember.
After being sealed to Jay, we went outside to be greeted and congratulated by our friends and family. And to get pictures!! Lots of pictures! The weather, we were told, had been dark right before we came out, but was beautiful for us for our pictures.
After pictures, we left Salt Lake to go to out luncheon at the Davis Conference Center (Jay's place of employment) It was beautifully set up, his co-workers did an awesome job! The food was delicious and it was so nice to be able to somehow thank everyone for all their love and support and for coming to share our special day. We were able to show our video, which was just the photo part at this point, and see it for the first time ourselves. Also the mic got passed around for people to give us advise, I learned that Jay gets to wear the pants....but I get to tell him which pair, when to put them on, and how to wear them.As we were beginning to leave the luncheon, a few people came back in from outside to tell us the sky was black, it was beginning to rain and we should probably plan on having it inside. (By the way, on our announcement it read that in case of inclentment weather, we'd have the reception at a chapel, which no one knew, I NEVER BOOKED.) I didn't want to change the reception. I wanted it outside, where we had done all the work, (planted the flowers, weeded, also we set up chairs and tables the night before) and it looked so beautiful!! So I said it will be fine, and it will pass and I began praying real hard, that the weather would work out!
After the luncheon, Jay dropped my off to pack for the honeymoon (ops! I forgot) and he went to help deal with the reception, I think....I know that he fell down the stairs at his parents house face-first during this time, but I'm not sure what else he did.
Our reception was being held in East Layton in a family friends' yard that I loved. It's a really big yard, you go down the side of the house and it opens up down a hill and there's a stream running through it, and back behind the stream there is lots of trees and plants and there's three bridges going up over the water and archways before the bridges, and tons of areas of flowers, which we had planted a lot of reds. We had tons of room to work with, we had set up the tables and chairs in the biggest area, at the bottom of the hill. We had two canopies, one for the cake, and one for the TV showing our video. And on the other side of where you came down, is where we planned on serving the food, they had a big room inside for us to use to be able to keep it, Keary and Debbie Kohler prepared our food, which was delicious and beautiful. We were having "the line" (me, Jay and our parents) at the bottom of the hill in front of one of the bridges and an archway. I loved how everything was planned! It was perfect and how I always dreamed it would be!The weather passed quickly and we thought that the reception site should be fine. THANK GOODNESS!!! We met at the reception around 4:00 for pictures.and that's when I found out that the yard was FLOODED. The ground was so wet, as you stepped you really had to work to get your foot back out! And I thought that there was no way it rained that much! So I went in to get ready for our pictures and leave it to my mom to deal with, and leaving me to my bridesmaids to help me get ready. My dress laced up the back and they had quite a hard time lacing it up, but the managed in the end and I was off to get pictures going.
I go outside, to find all the tables and chairs had to be moved from the bottom of the hill to on the other side of the bridge because of the FLOOD. I find my mom running around, moving stuff and she tells me that the neighbor had left on not one, but two hoses all night and that she had to go over to his house to ask him to turn them off, because they were still running. Also, he was very rude to her, telling her she's left her water on before. (Which he needs to know his neighbors better apparently since, we live no where near him, and he also could use a class on water drainage since if the people who's house we were using did leave on their water, it wouldn't drain in his yard, only theirs. The man's yard drained into their yard, our reception. Damn him.) I wanted to go over and kill him. And maybe would have, but there wasn't enough time.We were able to start pictures and soon people started arriving, the reception went very well, people would take off their shoes to walk in the walk through all the water to get to us, and only a few people slipped, and got really wet! As for us, we stood in the a puddle or "the line" and my dress got a brown dirt ring around it! (it really wasn't bad, came right out! Thanks Mom!) It was really nice to see so many people who we love and have helped us, taught us, loved us, throughout our lives. I loved meeting Jay's extended family and be welcomed so warmly by them. It was a great night.
As the reception came to the end, (a nice night yes, but we didn't want it to last forever!) we cut the cake, throw the bouquet and retrieved the grader. We were ready to go. (I didn't know where we were going for our honeymoon still, it was a surprise that Jay never gave in to telling me!) Of course, my brothers (I'm going to guess mostly Dean) and my friends did an excellent job decorating Jay's car!
